A Deviant Art Blog.

Filling out the first deviant blog. Little do I know of the excitement that will come my way in the future days. The calling card for a life I can not imagine. Who are we to be lead by emotions. Right now I'm feeling pretty relaxed. Not excited, not depressed. Im just sitting here listening to the sweet sounds of The Electronic Periodic Podcast and typing what ever comes into my head.
Why cant we all live this way?
Why do we have to be driven by thoughts and feeling and not my music or by what ever makes us passionate?
With passion come love.
With love comes peace.
But... we peace comes war.
I guess its an inevitable cycle of destruction.
Some of us will be lucky enough to pass before that day comes. Who knows thats going to happen? Maybe the internet will crash and stock markets will fail once again, forcing the world into an economic crisis. Maybe a new virus will hatch wiping out billions of people. Maybe BP will let another oil cap slip off ruining our Earths waters once and for all. Maybe its about time Yellow Stone National Park decided to erupt. Or maybe that dreaded 10km by 10km asteroid (the same size that wiped out the dinosaurs) will come plummeting to Earth and that will be that. Or maybe, just maybe we will all see the truth. The truth of humanity. The truth of why we are here. The truth that in the end we are fucked and there isn't much we can do about it. Something is going to kill us. It's doesn't matter if its global disaster or just old age, its coming. So why don't we all just accept that fact and live life so we and those around us are happy and safe until the end?

I don't know. I'm just rambling. Who's going to read this anyways? My opinions don't matter in a world of billions. I'm just one being living a life. A life that I want to live. A life where those around me and who seek my love, my friendship, my acquaintance are happy and know they are loved. A life where I do things that I love. As long as what I do doesn't affect the world in a way that will cause pain and anguish, I'm happy being one of many, slipping through unnoticed. Silent, but content.

To all of you who know me, and to those of you who don't, you are my friends and my family, we are all part of one big family. We are the last of our kind.

I wish peace upon us all.

Over Qualified

So this is an email I received from a potential employer outlining why I wasn't given a job. I'm happy with the response but honestly I still would have liked the work.

enjoy :)

Hi Daniel,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to come in and meet with us regards this role.

Both the Production Manager and myself were extremely impressed by your experience, your portfolio and the way you chased this role. You come across extremely well in an interview, confident and with a great deal of maturity. Your resume and covering letter was amongst the best I received.

As this role was really at an assistant level, we were aware that someone who had some experience would ultimately find there to be little challenge by what this role offered. We felt that your skills and your portfolio showed a depth that went beyond the needs of this specific role; you’d be a great full-time graphic designer and with your permission, I’d like to keep your details for the freelance opportunities that we have coming up and for future requirements when we have need of graphic design expertise which goes beyond simple outline reproduction. There may be some multimedia projects coming up in which both Mal and myself thought that you might be interested. We’re not at the stage of being able to recruit for this type of work at this moment but very definitely for the near future.

Having worked and recruited designers for quite a while, my only suggestion to you would be that if you’re applying to some of the larger agencies around to have some hard copy examples of your work on hand. Given the fact that you’ve done some multimedia/digital work, maybe invest in a netbook/iPad or small laptop to have on hand for your interview to show your work; your range of work is too good not to be used a tool to sell yourself at the interview and you want to make sure that you have the tools on hand to facilitate this.

Once again, thank you for your time and I wish you the very best for your endeavours. If you want to let prospective employers know that you’ve fared well in other interviews and that we gave very serious consideration to your application, please do so and I am happy to provide a recommendation in that regards.

Coffee, Cafe, iPhone, Blog.

Sitting at a cafe in the town that has mothered me for many years. My iPod playing the sweet sounds of The Avalanches in my ears, cutting through the daily bustle of this quiet mall. Being the middle of winter I'm definitely feeling the chill of the breeze that funnels through the mall. Those who seek the sun are in the same position, bracing as the icy wind rips through the fabric of what you would normally presume to be warm clothing. Suddenly my concentration is broken as the scream of a wounded soldier breaks the peace I once had with my music. His cries soon cease as the waiter brings him his kids milkshake and half a serve of scones. Teary eyes now dry I sink back into my chair, after repositioning to catch the optimum amount of rays from the glowing sun.
I am going to miss this place. The comfortable groove I have made for myself here. The love of my friends and having them so close. The cold winter nights where you dread heading out because you know if you rug up you will get to hot when busting a move on the dancefloor, and if you don't wear enough your going to get the winter flu while walking home because you've missed the newie bus and don't have enough money for a taxi because you couldn't resist buying just one more, extremely over priced, smirnof black.
What I am definitely NOT going to miss is the lack of opportunity this place has to offer a young budding graphic designer. Yes I have picked up freelance work here and there and have had graphic design work at the university but there have been no decent job opportunities to feed my need for success. As much as I love spending my days seated at a cafe drinking coffee and drawing, there just isn't enough inspiration to keep my mind active. The culture of this town is limited and quiet frankly nothing exciting ever really happens. It would be a good place to settle down, but to try and make something of yourself. There just aren't many avenues to take. Maybe in 20 years time, when the population outnumbers the amount of shops and the once bustling mall becomes the meeting point for families and friends rather than the national shopping conglomerate CENTRO, will I be able to come back and live out a life that I will fill all my needs. No doubt by then I will have experienced life and tasted the sweet nectar that seeps through the cracks in the pavement that I choose to walk. Until then I guess I'll just take each day as it comes and take what ever opportunities come my way.
It's easy to get caught in a place and I guess I have only been caught in Armidale for a year, as for the other 6 years it was all time well spent. It's been a good place to grow into the person I am today, a good place to learn the lessons that will get me through the rest of life and a good place to evolve.
So as my blog comes to an end and the once vibrant sun slowly creeps behind the looming clouds, I leave you with this final sentence. One that has no meaning at all.

A fleeting moment, a pause.

Decided to sit out the front today.
On the porch looking out over the bay.
Made a nice hot cuppa just for the occasion
Having a laptop was the ultimate persuasion
As soon as I sat I began to regret my decision
My judgement of the weather needed a little more precision
The slight breeze that was blowing was enough to spoil
The nice hot cuppa that was once on the boil
So I bid you farewell as I retreat indoors
My front porch visit, a fleeting moment, a pause.
